Job Summary
Diagnose, service, repair and schedule maintenance and upkeep for designated vehicles as identified through the auspices of the DSNWK and KDOT relationship. Perform the general maintenance on agency vehicles located in Ellis County. Vehicles from other agency sites will be worked in as time permits (when in the Hays area). Routinely inspect all agency owned vehicles and address mechanical needs and body repairs.
Essential Functions
Responsible for diagnosing needed vehicle repairs and if those identified repairs are to be completed internally or externally.
Responsible for the scheduling of external vehicle repair needs once an estimate is received.
Notify the Transportation Manager of any repairs over $200.
Responsible for regular scheduled maintenance and repair of vehicles as identified in the job summary.
Responsible for unscheduled and unexpected vehicle repairs requiring immediate attention.
Responsible for conducting routine inspection of all agency owned vehicles and addressing mechanical needs and body repair. This will be done twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.
Responsible for repairs and upkeep of building and equipment and notify Transportation Manager when assistance is required from DSNWK's maintenance staff or external vendor.
Responsible for repairs and upkeep of the building generator to ensure it is in good operating condition.
Responsible for completing all lawn maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and sidewalk snow removal.
Maintains knowledge of industry trends and resources for appropriate vehicle repair and maintenance.
Responsible for providing back up support to the Vehicle Operator - Maintenance staff in the processing and input of data into the Mitchell 1 vehicle maintenance tracking system, process open work orders and input the data into the RTA software.
Responsible for ensuring proper inventory of needed parts and supplies with a reasonable and prudent respect to budget.
Responsible for assisting in producing the proper internal vehicle repair invoicing information and maintaining both internal and external vehicle invoices.
Responsible to work with and provide required information to KDOT inspector and follow-up with repair of any KDOT identified infractions within KDOT required time frame.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Complete other duties as assigned by the Transportation Manager.
May be contacted for after hours emergencies.
This position is not subject to the two year training period as defined by KPERS.
Job Specifications
Education - High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience - Five years of vehicle mechanic experience preferred.
Extent of physical effort required - Routine job requirements. Ability to push and pull weights in excess of 150 pounds on a regular basis. Stand for long periods of time. Repetitive stooping, bending, twisting and lifting. Working with arms above head for extended periods of time. Working on knees when required for extended periods of time. Effectively handling and lifting of various objects that may weigh more than 60 pounds. May be required to pass a work fit examination prior to employment in this position.
