Maintenance Technician (Hill City)


Essential Functions

  1. Perform a preventative maintenance schedule, as assigned, for developmental centers, residential locations, and office areas and check facilities and equipment for potential problems.

  2. Perform general maintenance of DSNWK properties as assigned.

  3. Estimates supplies and time needed for each job. Purchase required building/equipment supplies in a cost effective manner.

  4. Builds and/or maintains specialized equipment for use of persons served, as needed (Assistive Technology).

  5. Perform small welding and/or metal fabrication jobs.

  6. Paints existing as well as new work. Works with staff to insure as little interruption to staff and persons served as possible.

  7. Troubleshoots and repairs existing electrical wiring and/or installs new circuits.

  8. Performs plumbing work such as but not limited to: installing new water/sewer lines (remodeling), repairs/replaces old lines, resets toilets, replaces faucets, open toilets, drains, and sewer lines.

  9. Performs general carpentry, repairs existing rooms/walls, constructs walls, remodels, finishes and replaces doors and windows.

  10. Repairs sheetrock and tile walls. Installs and finishes new drywall.

  11. Installs small areas of flooring, works with contractors in preparing areas for larger installations.

  12. In locations having an underground lawn sprinkler system, repair sprinkler lines and heads. 

  13. Troubleshoot appliance problems before calling a repairman.

  14. Instructs DSNWK staff on how to do minor maintenance.

  15. Makes appropriate purchases of supplies and small tools. Maintain accountability of DSNWK property.

  16. Review and track work orders daily, keep current records of work completed using an iPad or similar device. Turn in paperwork and receipts to Facilities Services Manager weekly.

  17. Keep Facilities Services Manager informed of facility conditions, potential problems, work completed and work pending.

  18. All other duties as assigned.

Other Responsibilities

  1. Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Administrative Services or Facilities Services Manager.

  2. Will not have access to PHI and EPHI except for person specific projects.

  3. This position is not subject to the two year training period as defined by KPERS.

Job Specifications

Education - High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience - Five years experience with general maintenance preferred.

Extent of physical effort required - Must be able to stand for long periods of time, climb a ladder, twist, stoop, and do repetitive movements. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds unassisted.
